Robots - my passion project!

One of the students in Room 1 simply loves robots. He enjoys creating them and loves drawing them. Check out some of the different robots I have observed in the classroom already this term. I am super proud to support your passion project Tui!

Your attention to detail shows that there is lots of learning going on as you explore.

All about me!

In Term 1 at Glen Innes School we really enjoy exploring the topic, 'All about me'! In our bright and colourful artwork we created a small self portrait using pencil (and vivid) to place in the middle of our picture and used colour squares to create a pattern around the border. A pattern is simply a repeated decorative design. What patterns can you spot in our artwork and what colours would you use if you created your own pattern?

I love how individual each self portrait is and the pop of colour that they bring to the corner of the classroom. Tino kino te pai Room 1!

Our Name Poem

We have been exploring our christian or first names in Room 1. Your christian name is sometimes called a first name. In our class we looked carefully at every name. We read them, explored the letter at the start of each name and counted how many letters in total they have. The shortest names in Room 1 have 3 letters and the longest name has 11 letters. We are all so proud that we can recognise our own names!

Miss Webster shared a cool poem about names to help us make a special display that included everyone's name. It was so great that we were all at school that day, which helped make completing our name poem super easy. 100% attendance, reading, math and creating a display - what an epic day!

Here is a copy of the poem incase you would like to use it in your classroom.

Everybody has a name

Some are different.

Some the same.

Some are short.

Some are long.

All our right.

None are wrong.

Our class name is ..........

It’s special to me.

It’s just where I want to be.

What is your name? Do you know where your name came from? How many letters are there in it? We'd love to hear about your name!

Another four legged pet comes to visit...

Last week we had another pet come for a visit. Brooklyn's rabbit, Rainbow came to see Room 2 and Room 3 and Room 4. Rainbow is a brown, black and white rabbit. She has really soft fur.

Room 2 found out that Rainbow likes to eat carrots! We also thought of another animal that likes to eat carrots and that's a reindeer. Both rabbit and reindeer start with the letter 'r' and Room 2 wondered whether all animals that start with the letter 'r' like carrots?

Welcome back to 2020

Wow - what a fantastic first day back we have had.

Mr Hendricks organised a jumping castle for our first day back - how lucky are we?

Room 2 and 3 really enjoyed the jumping castle. It was so much fun jumping up and down!

And we got to taste the tomatoes that had been growing in our garden over the summer.
We thought they were yummy.

Term 2 Week 2 - Mother's Day

So proud of all of Room 2!

Everyone worked super hard on Friday and did some fantastic colouring and writing
for their awesome Mum /'Mother Figure'.

Here's a sneak peek of what is coming for all the amazing mums in Room 2 on Sunday.
Enjoy your special day!

Term 2 Week 2: Sport Auckland - Dance

Room 2 started Dance with Caitlyn on Friday. As a class we explored different ways to move or travel and came up with lots of ideas like; skipping, hopping, crawling, walking backwards and sidestep, It was fun being the leader and choosing how the rest of the class moved behind us. Caitlyn also played some cool games with us - one of our favourite ones was 'the balancing game'. At the end, we played a game where we had to touch body parts with a partner or a small group. It was lots of fun. We are already looking forward to our next Dance session with Caitlyn.

Term 2 Week 2: Jelly Beans Music

Last Monday, Room 2 were super excited to attend their first Jelly Beans music lesson. Our teacher was Mrs White and she had a lovely assortment of musical instruments for us to experiment with. We enjoyed singing and moving to the beat, as well as playing along to a song about a broken car.

A big Glen Innes 'Thank you' to Skids, who helped to sponsor the programme throughout Term 2.
We can't hardly wait for next Monday!

We had to oncentrate hard as a class.
But Jellybeans Music was so much fun!

Story time!

This week, Room 2 were lucky enough to have some stories read to them by Room 10. We really enjoyed listening to the different stories. We hope that some of the children in Room 10 will come and read to us again very soon! Well done Benson, Dau, Piripi, Olivia and Edwina - it's not easy reading out loud to an audience, especially a wriggly Room 2!

Benson read a story called The Gardeners Maze.

They loved Dau's story - It's my bread!

The girls read longer stories which Room 2 really enjoyed!
Piripi reads a story to Room 2.

Thank you Room 10! We loved you reading to us. Please come again soon!

Rippa Rugby

Room 2 really enjoyed learning some rippa rugby skills this week. We loved playing the team games. We had to run with the rugby ball, weave in and out of the cones and throw and catch. It was so much fun. Thanks you Mr du Toit for organising the coaches - we had a great introduction to Rippa Rugby!
