Class DOJO...55% sign up so far!

Thank you to the 11 families who have signed up to support their child's learning journey in Room 2...only another 9 to go to have the whole set!

It's a communication app for the classroom that connects teachers, parents, and students to share photos, videos, and messages throughout the day.

We will use Class Dojo to work together in partnership as a team to share the classroom experience in
Room 2 at Glen Innes School, and bring the big ideas to life that we have in the classroom to your home.

Please sign up using the easy instruction letter/s your child has brought home and make their Dojo come alive in their learning journey with us in Room 2.

Attendance Issues

Attendance is becoming a HUGE issue in Room 2...

or rather the lack of,

or inconsistency of,

the attendance everyday,

 by every student.

The school attendance expectation is 91% and in these foundation years it is SO important that everyone comes every day to learn. The academic gaps in READING, WRITING and MATHS only get wider and bigger and much more difficult to bridge across the yearly expectations despite having great teachers who spend time preparing purposeful learning opportunities within their lessons - and that's without addressing the developmental delays in the SOCIAL and BEHAVIOURAL expectations which are arising within the classroom and across the school.

Last week, only 57% of the children in Room 2 attended  school EVERYDAY...the other 43% missed out and are now further behind.

Q. What if...
  • The shops were only open 57% of the time, but you never knew which 57% of the time during the week that would be?

  • Your mobile phone only credits 57% of the total amount that you top it up with? E.g. You buy a $10.00 top up voucher, but only $5.70 is credited to your account...

  • You can only have 57% of a cup of tea/coffee that you make?

  • You only get paid 57% of what you are expecting from your pay or benefit for the week?

It's really hard (as I hope you can begin to appreciate) to teach a child who is only in the classroom just over half the expected time per week; 57%.  Even the greatest teacher in the world (and we have some great teachers at Glen Innes School) can not help a child to learn, and make their necessary PROGRESS at an ACCELERATED rate of EXPECTATION if their attendance is inconsistent and detrimental to their academic well-being.

Ask yourself, as a parent...

"Am I enabling my child to be the best that they can be, and setting them up to succeed in life, if they are not at school everyday?"

Thank you to the parents / whanau / care-givers of;
Lawren, Angelina, Nevaya, Irene, Kimiora, Kaitlyn, Nofo, Radhika, Laeken, Jessie, Junior and William who ensured that their child was at school EVERYDAY.

Your partnership with us in your child's learning journey is very much appreciated...
Mrs Collins & Ms Webster.

Target met!!

With 20/22 here to day we hit our target for attendance CONGRATULATIONS!!

Unfortunately,
we lost one of our students today to another school,
so our class roll is now 21...

So, we now need 19/21 students here EVERYDAY to hit our 91%.

WE CAN DO IT
                               ...but only with your help!

Day 2, Term 3 = +25%

Today our attendance was 86%

which was an increase of 25% on yesterday,

but still short of our 91% target!

........................................................................................................

Thank you and congratulations to all of the parents who have signed up to support their "child" with Class Dojo and enabled bonus points to be given to...

Kaitlyn, Ella, Lawren, Bobby, Laeken & Polini.

Your input WILL make a huge difference to their learning at
Glen Innes School and offer you a unique insight into what happens in Room 2 between 9 a.m - 3 p.m.
