Welcome to Term 4…
We do hope that you had a wonderful time together over the term break and enjoyed the company of your children; we are pleased to welcome them back for the final term this year at school which is looking quite busy already...therefore as well as consolidation of their learning in the classroom there is much to celebrate too!
Our inquiry topic focus this term is “Kitchen Chemistry” which will have the students looking at what happens when we MIX or MELT solids, liquids and gases. This will be complemented with a trip to “The TipTop Factory” on Wednesday 1st NOVEMBER; $3.00 contribution required per student .
In week 3 we have the Education Review Officers with us at school...please support the students and staff at this time when we will be demonstrating the first-hand acceleration, equity and excellence provided to all learners enabling them to be the best that they can be at Glen Innes School.
In weeks 4 - 8 all students will be participating in, and preparing for, the annual Cultural Celebration on THURSDAY 14th DECEMBER. This annual event can only happen with parental support and direction...WE NEED YOU to help in anyway you can to share and celebrate your particular culture, please contact your class teacher.
Our maths focus in term 4 will be the consolidation of addition/subtraction, personalised basic facts as well the incorporation of algebra (patterns, sequences, fractions and symmetry) into our number knowledge. In literacy we will continue with our recount writing genre with the termly writing sample in week 4 and in our syndicate phonics programme we will continue to encourage the children to listen to the sounds that the letter/s make. This is as well as their personalised Keyrings and/or Essential Spelling Words. In reading the daily programme will continue Monday -Thursday which we ask you to continue to support at home by reading and talking about the story every night with your child and returning the signed reading log in your child’s book bag the next day.
Finally, I must thank you and continue to encourage you to partnership with us to ensure that your child is at school every day, on time, and set up to succeed. It is so important that your child attends school … we simply cannot teach them if they are not here, and you cannot support them if you don’t know what they need to do in their home learning.
Thank you.
